Who We Are

JBS Dev began its remarkable journey at the dawn of the Internet Age in 1999. We started out as a one-person software development consultancy and became so much more over the following two decades.

Our humble beginnings quickly catapulted us into the forefront of the music industry and online retail sales. Through our passion, we built an eCommerce platform, point of sale system (POS), and warehouse management system for our very first client Music123—a leading retail seller of musical instruments and publications since 1918—that wanted to quickly expand its multi-generational family business into the emerging digital age.

Based on the work we did for Music123, we developed our own proprietary eCommerce platform that we later licensed to an exclusive group of customers. This eCommerce experience ultimately fast-tracked and significantly increased the tempo of our software development expertise which largely targeted the retail and music industry during this initial growth spurt.

In 2004, we were honored to add startup company MusicGremlin to our growing client roster. MusicGremlin was an early portable digital music player with a subscription-based music service that could be accessed wirelessly. Intertwined with our passion and fueled by our technology, MusicGremlin was so successful with its business model that it was ultimately acquired by pioneering flash drive developer SanDisk—who also become a notable customer of JBS.

However, it was really our passionate, pragmatic, and problem-solving approach to building software solutions at Music123 that took us to our big “breakout” moment when we were asked to develop extremely complex software solutions for the flagship enterprise Guitar Center in 2008—the largest music retailer chain of its kind in the United States.

It was here that we experienced a major inflection point elevating us into a full enterprise-level custom software development company. During this intense growth period, we were quickly learning the ins and outs of successfully managing all the moving parts of a multifaceted enterprise client like Guitar Center who, brilliantly, ended up acquiring our very first client—Music123.

With a partnership relationship of this type, we soon found ourselves immersed in scalable projects with intricate and interesting technology challenges that pushed us to the limit to grow, mature, and increase our technical expertise to help organizations become successful at any size.

Over the years demand for our services rapidly increased. We found that our incredibly talented team needed to scale fast and smart. We made the decision to recruit only senior-level engineers to maintain the high-quality output and service that had become our company’s hallmark. This model has been so successful that to this day we will only hire senior-level talent to leverage the many years of experience that go along with it. Ultimately, this has been a key differentiator for our customers and critical to our high growth.

Today, JBS has vastly expanded its expertise beyond retail/eCommerce to include strategy and architecture, data warehousing, business intelligence and data science, mobile application development, and visual interface design. Our clients now come from varied industries such as education, non-profit, financial services and healthcare.
